Two women face down the biggest of enemies in the mountains—themselves—as they discover who they are (and who they want to be) on a rugged backcountry ski trip to southeast Utah.
OUTLIER: Trust is a perilous journey into the unknown. This film takes us into the remote mountains of southeastern Utah as much as on the deeply personal journey of self-exploration of two women traveling through them.
A film for everyone who’s felt caught in-between, this is a story of the multiplicity of our identities—and the way the land helps us uncovers each version of self.
As skier Lani Bruntz and snowboarder Dani Reyes-Acosta navigate the backcountry, they learn that mountain conditions often reflect their own lived experiences: from joy and escapism to frustration and sorrow, this is a story about people and place, identity, and community. This is a story about becoming.

In this episode of @OUTLIERfilmseries , we’ll see the cast’s relationships with the mountains, each other and themselves evolve and grow. We’ll get an inside look at the women’s personal lives including the balance of family life, motherhood and mental health, and the pressures of life and sport as a professional in the white, male-dominated snow industry. We’ll witness the personal sacrifices they have to make to reach new heights.
Yet their sisterhood grounds them through it all. Their love of snow, cultural connection, and community-oriented values create the camaraderie that guides their exploration of self and the world.
